2. Beijar é bom para os dentes

The story &#8212; a morality tale made doubly sad because it is part of a growing template &#8212; so far:<br /><br /> A Malayalam TV channel runs an "investigative report" suggesting that in a cafe in Calicut, young couples have been engaging in &#8220;immoral activities&#8221;. No evidence is shown; it is all suggestion, innuendo. (Good for TRPs)<br /><br /> A bunch of Bharatiya Yuva Morcha activists march into the cafe and smash everything in sight &#8212; because they are &#8220;outraged&#8221; by aforesaid immoral activities.<br /><br /> Thus far, it is straight out of the template popularized by persons of the Pramod Muthalik ilk.<br /><br /> And then the janta gets into the act. A Facebook group is founded: Kiss of Love.<br /><br /> The group calls for a peaceful protest &#8212; to wit, that like-minded people will gather in Kochi&#8217;s Marine Drive on November 2 to share a hug, a kiss.<br /><br /> It defines its mission statement in a lengthy post that reads:</p><br /> <p>Our program is not restricted to lovers and couples. We welcome all human beings who are capable of loving each other and would like to express that in public. With this symbolic gesture we would like to send a strong message to social elements who indulge in moral fascism and moral policing. It is interesting to note that prominent voices against our campaign were careful to distant themselves from the term &#8220;moral police&#8221;. However at the same time, when they dictate a moral code to conduct a protest, they are defacto committing an act of moral policing. We believe that these voices are not mainstream, and they don&#8217;t really represent the population of Kerala. Therefore we urge you, parents, brothers and sisters, couples, and everybody to come out along with your loved ones and join us and express your love in public places. In Kerala we know instances where husbands and wives were beaten up by the so called moral police, just because some one was not convinced that the couples were really husband and wife. We have also seen young professionals, pregnant women, siblings harassed by these fringe elements of the society. So its time we the people, parents, siblings, couples, come out and show that there is nothing wrong in expressing our love to our loved ones through hugs or kisses in public. This is not just a protest for the right to kiss in public places. We need to open up spaces in the rigid Kerala society to make it tolerant towards expression of love in public spaces, be it between siblings, or parents with children. A short word to those who say that this is not our culture. Our literature and poetry has celebrated the expression of love. One of the earliest recorded instance of a kiss is in the epic Mahabharatha (where Rishyashrina kisses Vaishali). In fact some anthropologists beleive that kissing originated in India and it got passed on to the rest of the world, when Alexander came here with his army.</p><br /> <p>The group gets 33k adherents, and counting. Not all are supportive &#8212; the trolls come out in force and, but of course, the mothers and sisters of the protestors are dragged into this argument.<br /><br /> For once, someone shows how to handle trolls with calm grace, dignity, and not a little understated finger-flipping. Sample question and answer:</p><br /> <p>Q: Yo, will you give me your sister to kiss?<br /><br /> A: If she feels like kissing you I have no need to interfere. But she should feel like kissing you. The kiss must be welcome to both parties. Otherwise, if you pile on and try to kiss her you might end up measuring the thickness of her slippers. If you are prepared to receive that in front of everyone, come on over. If you feel brave enough to kiss with mutual consent then come on over.</p><br /> <p>There are more questions in this vein &#8212; and more answers that are, if anything, sharper and more pointed. Read all of that here.<br /><br /> And so the story goes. Latest on it is that police have denied the organizers permission to hold their kiss-in protest.</p><br /> <p>"We have rejected a few requests in the past as well, citing traffic and law and order issues. In the case of Kiss of Love also, it has been decided not to grant permission," (DCP R) Nishanthini said.Meanwhile, organizers have decided to go ahead with their plans. &#8220;We will not make any announcement nor will we place any placards. As per law, 20 to 25 people will gather without permission. We will definitely meet,&#8221; said Rahul Pasupalan, a short film maker and one of the organizers.</p><br /> <p>About the police denying permission, not too surprised &#8212; their sole concern is to prevent potential law and order issues &#8212; and in any city in this country, the prospect of young people gathering in a public space and engaging in even the most innocuous hug and kiss is guaranteed to bring out what we euphemistically call &#8220;anti-social elements&#8221;.<br /><br /> That said, a question occurs: If protestors have to seek police permission beforehand, then why is it the Bharatiya Yuva Morcha and others of their ilk don&#8217;t have to seek similar permission before indulging their, what&#8217;s it called, &#8220;moral outrage&#8221;?<br /><br /> NB: Image above used for representational purposes only.

3. Troca de bactérias

A passionate kiss swaps a lot more than saliva. In fact, researchers found an intimate 10-second make-out session can transmit up to 80 million bacteria between partners. According to the study published in Microbiome, couples that kissed at least nine times a day also shared similar bacterial makeup on their tongues.

8. O primeiro beijo… no cinema!

From Pretty Woman to Spider-Man, we’ve seen plenty of great smooches in our lifetime. But in 1896, Thomas Edison aired the first on-screen lip lock in history. The famed inventor of the phonograph and electric light bulb filmed and showed The Kiss, a 23-second film featuring Canadian actress May Irwin, in his New Jersey studio during a time when public kissing was taboo.

Sabe qual é o beijo mais antigo do cinema? Tem mais de 100 anos. Em 1896, May Irwin e John Rice protagonizaram o primeiro beijo no grande ecrã, no filme The Kiss.
